Down-the-line.com/Athletics. Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision of the International Association of Athletics Federations not to include Russian athletes Elena Isinbayeva and Maria Lasitskene in the list of the most influential athletes.

“I believe that the members of the association and the veterans who form this ranking should study the history of athletics in detail, consider the results of competitions and literary sources. We are not compiling a list of the most influential athletes only from the UK or the US By what criteria these athletes were, I doubt nationality played a key role in that.

Either it is necessary to indicate – “the most influential, excluding Russians”, otherwise this list becomes meaningless. Our athletes are among the most successful in the world, and that does not even take into account the achievements of athletes from the USSR. If I were an ARAF representative, I would be unhappy with this situation. Apparently there is some kind of conflict between our national federation and the world federation,” Svishchev said in a comment for TASS.

The list includes 40 athletes, but there is not a single representative from Russia.
