Russian swimming record holder Alexander Stepanov said he was not in his best form at the International University Sports Festival (IFUS) in Yekaterinburg as it comes at the end of the season.
Stepanov won the 400m freestyle on the first day of the festival swimming competition.
— Start after the end of the season. How much 100% is from Stepanov, and is it a plus because of open water, or are you already going into a minus?
– I would rather say that I am going progressively in less. Right now, maybe 10% of Stepanov is here, the rest of Stepanov is already on vacation. I pulled out of some distances but I will swim 4×200 meters in the final if the guys qualify. After this start, everything, the season is over, the training camp in Kabardinka, I hope they will let me sunbathe and relax.
Now my body is already everything, it will no longer show the best results in these competitions. For personal distances, I applied for 200, 400 and 800 meters. But our strongest athletes came in the 200 meters, and I’m not such a sprinter.
