The fight between the Ukrainian and the Swiss Nef lasted almost three hours
Ukrainian tennis player Julia Starodubtseva out of qualification US Open 2023. The debutante of the Grand Slam tournaments lost in three sets to Celine Nef from Switzerland.
The duel turned out to be combative and dramatic. It lasted two hours and 45 minutes.
In the first set, the opponents alternately led the score. With the score 4:5 in favor of Nef, our compatriot took three games in a row (and two on the opponent’s serve) and celebrated the victory.
In the second set, Yulia took the lead 2:0, but the representative of Switzerland managed to turn the tide of the game – 6:4 in her favor. The decisive set also started with a game in favor of the Ukrainian. But in the end, everything was decided by a lost serve with the score 1:1. Again 6:4 – and then follows the 18-year-old Swiss.
Recall that Katarina Zawatskaya also lost at this stage earlier. And Dayana Yastremskaya, having confidently defeated the Englishwoman Heather Watson, went further and in the semi-finals of the qualification she will fight with Eugenie Bouchard from Canada.
