The Georgian defender also expressed support for Ukraine
Defender Miner Irakli Azarov gave the first interview after moving to the Ukrainian club.
“It was incredible because I know how good the Shakhtar team is. My first workout went very well. I keep moving forward and enjoying my new home.”
“First of all, my friend Giorgi Gocholeishvili plays here, I have known him for a very long time. Also, my decision was influenced by the desire to play in the Champions League and develop, because I know that Shakhtar has a great history and can offer many opportunities. So I will do my best to work with the team to keep moving forward.”
“When Georgy found out about Shakhtar’s interest, he called me and told me what the situation is now. I talked to my family, friends, wife, and the decision was made to come here, to my new home.
I know that a new coach has arrived, because I think we will be a very strong team. Getting better every day, with every game. In my opinion, we will do our best.”
“Yes, there were concerns, but Georgy told me about the situation in Ukraine. I know that there is a danger that people cannot live a normal life. But the club cares about our safety. Of course, I support Ukraine and will do everything in my power for Shakhtar and my new family.”
The 21-year-old player of the Georgian national team signed a contract until June 30, 2028. Earlier it was reported that the Pitmen offered the Serbian club three million euros for the defender.
Shakhtar is fourth in the UPL with 8 points. In the next match, the Pitmen will play Kolos on August 27.
