Chusovitina spoke about the decision to qualify for her ninth Olympics

1992 Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics Oksana Chusovitina told RT that she changed her mind about ending her career after the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo because she still feels strong in herself.

Chusovitina, who plays for Uzbekistan, has previously said she wants to compete in the 2024 Games. The gymnast will turn 49 in June 2024.

“Nothing happened that could be considered some kind of milestone event. It’s just that when some time passed after the Games, everything calmed down, calmed down, I got myself I even asked the question: why should I quit sport, if I really don’t want to? Besides, I still feel strength and even a little dissatisfaction in me.

Too many people told me that: they say, come on, finish it, and it almost took me the other way. Usually I don’t listen to anyone at all, I do everything as I see fit. So when I announced that I was finishing, I very quickly regretted it. On the other hand, we women are like this: today she said one thing, tomorrow she changed her mind, – said Chusovitina.

At the 1992 Olympics, as part of the unified team, Chusovitina won gold in the team tournament, and in 2008 she won silver on vault, playing for Germany.
