Olympic champion and double world champion in cross-country skiing Sergei Ustyugov underlined the importance of the prize money given to athletes during the Russian Cup last season.
The winners of the general classification of the 2022/2023 season of the Russian Cup received an additional reward of one million rubles from the sponsors. For second places in the general classification, the reward was 700,000 rubles, for third – 500,000 rubles.
– Has the Russian Ski Racing Federation been able to compensate for the lack of international departures so that the athletes are comfortable?
— Yes, completely. For this, thanks to Elena Valerievna Vyalbe . I don’t think in any other sport there are as many prize money as we had at the Russian Cup this year. I spoke with a lot of guys – no one had the conditions that Vyalbe and the Russian Ski Racing Federation created for us.

– If previous skiers ran almost without money, then last season we received 100,000 for first place. The difference is noticeable. If everything returns to the previous level, nothing will change much. I will also run, I hope.
