Russian figure skater Alexandre Enbert called the first appearance on the ice of the Olympic champion Roman Kostomarova after foot amputation.
On Tuesday, Kostomarov appeared on the ice in front of the public for the first time since his illness. This happened at the Averbukh show in Sochi. Kostomarov, having skated with his wife Oksana Domnina, came out onto the ice in sneakers and hugged her. Roman said, “I can hug you!” I love you!” The appearance of Kostomarov was not advertised in any way.
– Of course, a very strong and touching event happened – Roman went on the ice. Not only is it quite difficult to do emotionally, as he’s just got used to his new state, but it’s really a voluntary act that I think will become an example for many. It’s important as an example for people: anything is possible, don’t give up. We must believe in it, and it will help to overcome all difficulties, – quoted Enbert in Gazeta.Ru.
Since January, the 46-year-old sportsman has suffered several amputations after being hospitalized. In early July, Kostomarov announced that he was discharged from the hospital, since then videos with the adaptation process appeared on his social networks.
Kostomarov, paired with Tatyana Navka, won gold at the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin in ice dancing.
