Former figure skater, now choreographer and trainer Betina Popova working in the group of Sergei Roslyakov, spoke about the peculiarities of ice dancing.
– In addition to the absence of jumps, ice dancing is distinguished above all by absolute musicality. In other sports, for example, there are times when you can fall from a jump. The athlete presets the time of entry, the jump itself, a possible failure in its execution or the addition of a stunt. Therefore, there is no question of complete musicality. Not every movement is 100% musical, especially since the content of the program can sometimes literally change as it goes. And while dancing, each step, each tooth is inscribed in the music.
Second, ice dancing is very high quality skating. In other sports, tracks are not judged with as much care. The resolution of the steps, the turns, the very quality of the execution of the entry, exit arcs, etc., in the dance, all this is studied thoroughly. In single and pair skating, in this regard, it is somewhat calmer, – quotes the words of Popova “Championship”.
Betina Popova in 2019, she won the Universiade gold medal in ice dancing with Sergey Mozgov. In addition, the athletes twice stopped on the verge of winning the Russian Cup. In 2020, Popova announced her retirement.
