Betina Popova named the hardest parts of ice dancing

Former figure skater, now choreographer and trainer Betina Popova called the most difficult elements of ice dancing.

– I would probably call single leg bouldering and piste the most difficult elements of ice dancing. It is these elements in which the quality of the steps themselves, of the complex turns, is important. Also, before, skaters performed a compulsory dance, but now this is not the case.

The block on one leg shows the individual skill of each of the partners, and the four steps here should be performed as perfectly as possible. It’s hard enough already. In different coaching teams, they sometimes pervert in one way or another, trying to hide certain moments, find the right angles, reach a good speed in order to complete all the turns. In any case, this is an extremely difficult element, and it is extremely rare that it reaches the fourth level, – Popova told the Championship.

Popova won the 2019 Universiade gold medal in ice dancing with Sergey Mozgov. In addition, the athletes twice stopped on the verge of winning the Russian Cup. In 2020, the athlete announced his retirement.
