Lucescu: With such mistakes, we are champions in canceled goals

Head coach Dynamo Mircea Lucescu at the press conference after the first playoff match Conference leagues against Besiktas shared his opinion about the fight in general, and also paid attention to the refereeing, the mistakes of his players and the Romanian fans.

“Someone will say that I cling to refereeing. But with mistakes like this, we are champions in goals cancelled. And with Benfica the season before last, they also canceled … They drew that line, rewound a minute of the game in order to consider some kind of offside, which in fact was not. In the penalty episode, when the ball changed its direction of flight after a close-range shot and the Besiktas player’s head hit Popov’s pressed hand, the referees also made a decision in favor of our opponent.

“In general, the game was good on our part, if we exclude those mistakes, which, unfortunately, are repeated. This is what upsets me the most. I’m talking about this, but they still exist … Both our performance and the opponent’s had a good game, but we dominated, had good chances for scoring. But in such episodes, as with a canceled goal, it’s like your wings are clipped, and it’s very difficult to return to the game. We did it, well done guys, but I am dissatisfied with the result, as well as our mistakes.”

“We still have chances. Today we played well against a strong opponent who, technically and physically, was probably better than us, but we played well against them due to the organization of the game, dedication, unity. We will try to play in the same way in Istanbul, we have positive moments, but we need to eliminate these mistakes that we make in the game in defense and which lead to goals conceded. We must play our game, oppose our opponent with our combinational game, believe that we can achieve the desired result.

“It is difficult to ask the fans when another team is playing to support it in the same way as their own. Of course, we felt the support, perhaps we wanted to feel it a little more, but at the same time it is a pity that we did not thank the fans with a good result. It was a good game, but not the result… There is still a second match, I hope we play well, win and return to Bucharest to play the Conference League group stage fights.”

Recall that Dynamo lost to Besiktas in a productive thriller – 2:3. The Kyivians fought back twice, but conceded the third goal in the last minutes.

The fight, nominally home for Lucescu’s team, took place in Bucharest. The return match will be held in Istanbul on the last day of summer.
