Olympic champion Russian figure skater Anna Shcherbakova admitted on social media that after the International Skating Union (ISU) did not post her photo in the gallery dedicated to International Olympic Day, she received many messages with words of support.
On Thursday, the ISU posted on social media a photo of all the winners of the 2022 Olympics in figure skating, but in place of Shcherbakova, the Japanese Kaori Sakamoto, bronze medalist of the Games, was placed.
– I’m 18 years old, and I spent 15 of them in figure skating. I sincerely believe that everyone is equal in sport. After the recent ISU post, I received a lot of kind messages from people from different countries. Thanks a lot! So, after all, sport unites, – wrote the athlete.
Shcherbakova is the ISU ranking leader in figure skating. The 18-year-old is the only Russian singles figure skater to have won the Olympics while being the reigning world champion.
