Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics Artur Dalaloyan supported the initiative of the head of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports, Dmitry Svishchev, to raise the flag of the Russian Federation before all sporting events.
On Wednesday, the bill was submitted to the State Duma. The document proposes to expand the list of organizations on whose buildings or territories the Russian flag is constantly displayed. All sports facilities and subjects, regardless of their form of ownership (the Russian Olympic Committee, the Russian Paralympic Committee, the Russian Deaflympics Committee, professional sports clubs, fitness centers, sports training centers, sports leagues and federations), will have to hang the Russian flag on their buildings. In addition, each official physical culture and sports event must begin with the raising of the flag of the Russian Federation and the performance of the anthem.
“I don’t think it’s a problem anyway. If you look at it from the point of view that sport is the health of the nation, if a Russian flag is hung on all sports institutions, it will only add motivation, sports load to everyone who loves sport” , Dalaloyan said on the air of the show “There is a theme! on MatchTV.
By decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) of December 2020, Russian athletes are only allowed to compete in the Olympics, Paralympics and World Championships in neutral status without the Russian anthem. At the end of February, the executive committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that international federations not invite Russians and Belarusians to competitions due to the situation in Ukraine.
