Winner of the European Championship Yaroslava Bondarenko spoke to about the difficulties of the current season, but noted that she was happy to regain the title of Russian champion in BMX flight.
Bondarenko won the national championship in Saransk.
— This season, it’s like the American races. Unfortunately, there were no injuries. The winter was difficult, the spring too, I missed a serious block of training, I had to spend a lot of energy. I had to miss the stages of the Russian Cup, which took place in Penza and Moscow. It was just supposed to be a competition where you start at the start of the season and come to your senses. Unfortunately, I didn’t have such competitions, but as the current result showed: everything that is not done is for the best. The main thing is not to give up and everything will definitely work out. We move on. We also have the Russian Cup, then we rest, gain strength and start the new season in a good mood with the championship jersey.
Psychologically, the season has gone back and forth, because what was missing is not enough – we really try to do everything to the maximum, a very tight competition calendar, but we have the feeling that something is missing. Nevertheless, we managed to put everything together piece by piece and show the result.
– You returned the title, is it important for you?
– I really wanted to. Last year, at the Russian Championship, I didn’t manage to win on my home ground in Moscow, but I managed to win back in Saransk, on the new supercross track. In principle, I like supercross, but it was a bit stressful – there was no start from an eight-meter mountain for a long time, I had to adapt. But before the championship there was the Russian Cup, she managed to analyze everything, put everything in place and show the result. I am really satisfied and happy. It’s nice to feel, when you understand from the start, confidence in what you’re doing. A new track, grandstands, a different speed – awesome and warm to the heart.
– The competition is growing, but you are on top. What’s the secret ?
“You just have to do what you love. The more you doubt, the more mistakes you make. Either you do well or you don’t do it at all,” Bondarenko told .
