Berinchyk: My exit is a way to honor the memory of defending heroes

The Ukrainian defended the WBO International title in a fight with the Swede Anthony Yigit

Champion WBO International in lightweight Denis Berinchik (18-0, 9 KOs) thanked the Armed Forces of Ukraine after the fight with the Swedish boxer Anthony Yigit (27-4-1, 10 KOs).

“My exit is a peculiar way to honor the memory of the defending heroes. Our land is shedding blood. Russia is the aggressor.

“The fight was not easy. My opponent is an experienced fighter. We walk up the stairs and wait for the fight for the world title. Glory to Ukraine, thanks to our defenders, the Armed Forces of Ukraine!” the boxer said.

Berinchik went out in a Viking costume for a duel with Yigit. The fight lasted 12 rounds. After the end of the fight, all the judges gave the victory to Denis – 117:111 115:113, 116:112.

Berinchyk defended his WBO International title for the eighth time. The Ukrainian won the championship belt in 2018.

In June, Berinchyk was supposed to fight Italian Emiliano Marsili. However, the Ukrainian refused to fight and vacated the EBU lightweight belt, which Denis won in December 2022 after defeating Frenchman Ivan Mendy.

The fight between Berinchyk and Yigit took place on the undercard of the fight between WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and WBA Regular title holder Daniel Dubois. The Ukrainian won by knockout in the ninth round and defended his belts.
