Gorodnaya won bronze in the junior women’s pursuit at the 2023 Summer Biathlon World Championships

Alexandra Merkushina made her way from 11th place to sixth

Ukrainian biathlete Elena Gorodnaya won bronze in pursuit race among juniors Summer Biathlon World Championships 2023.

The Ukrainian started in 11 seconds from the top three from the fourth position, which she received at the end of the sprint. Gorodnaya managed to reach third place after the second shooting. Then Elena kept the prize position until the very end.

Another Ukrainian, Alexandra Merkushina, took sixth place, moving up from 11th starting position. Ksenia Prikhodko became 12th, Eva Martynenko – 14th.

At the 2023 Summer World Cup, Ukraine has already won six medals. Alexandra Merkushina and Elena Gorodnaya together climbed the podium in the women’s junior super sprint. In a similar race in men, silver was brought to Ukraine by Sergey Suprun, and in the super sprint among adults, Artem Tishchenko won bronze. Bogdan Borkovsky, Stepan Kinash and Vitaliy Mandzyn took the entire podium in the junior sprint.

The 2023 Summer Biathlon World Cup takes place in Slovakia from 24 to 27 August. On Sunday, junior pursuits and senior mass starts will take place.
