Swimming champion of Russia Alexander Yegorov said he was starting to prepare for the next season literally the day after he returned from the International College Sports Festival.
Egorov became the second over a distance of 1,500 meters freestyle at the competitions held in Yekaterinburg.
– The start without Alexander Stepanov at 15:00 was somewhat surprising.
– A squad that thins out towards the end of the season. Well, seriously, swimming for 9 months without stopping is tough. And it’s hard mentally in the first place.
– At the very beginning, you were not in a very good mood, but you sailed until the last day. Faded towards the end?
– Competitions are a great wave of emotions that excite and lift you, you might say. So I came to my senses for the new season at the start.
– Emotions of what, apart from the direct departure?
– Good organisation. The Yekaterinburg authorities have done a great job, built a large village and facilities nearby. I am happy that the sport is developing in Russia. I hope to come back here.
– Will there be a disco in the village for the last time?
– I’m going home today. I have practice tomorrow morning. It’s time to get involved, it’s time to swim. I rested for three weeks, it’s time for me.
– Will the water run out?
– Russian Championship, Salnikov Cup. We will systematically prepare, go to training camp.
– Did you participate in all stages of the Russian Cup?
– Only for the Obninsk and Kazan stages. All departures prepared by the federation are important. Smart people are sitting there doing the work that allows us to improve results every season. We can only thank you for organizing the competitions and making some minimal adjustments on an individual level.
This season I missed the Cup stages in Sakhalin and Irkutsk. Flights, time differences, it’s very difficult, especially since I swim long distances, it’s important to recover here. Long-distance departures leave a big footprint on health. That’s why we approach this issue wisely. Athletes are smart people, we calculate certain moments, determine priorities, and this is an important part of our preparation,” Egorov told .
