Canadian figure skater Alexandra Paul died in a car accident, according to CBC Sports.
According to the network, on August 22, the 31-year-old athlete was in a car parked along an Ontario road with his child. The truck hit his car, causing Paul’s death.
The figure skater’s child survived and was rushed to hospital.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of Alexandra Paul. Our thoughts are with Alexandra’s family and loved ones,” the Canadian Figure Skating Federation said in a statement.
Paul, in a duet with Mitchell Islam, performed in ice dancing. In 2014, they took part in the Olympic Games in Sochi, where they took 18th place. In 2016, the duo announced their retirement.
