Thanks to her performance, Ukraine achieved the maximum high jump quota at the 2024 Olympics
Ukrainian athlete Yaroslav Maguchy won gold in World Championships in Athleticswhich takes place in Budapest.
For the first time in her career, a Ukrainian woman managed to get the highest award of the world championship. In the high jump sector, she overcame the mark of 2.01 meters on the second attempt, which none of her rivals could do. Yaroslava also tried to take a height of 2.07, but could not do it on three attempts. However, her result was enough to win.
Another Ukrainian, Irina Gerashchenko, took part in this discipline. Unable to jump over the bar of 1.97 meters, she stopped a stone’s throw from the medals – in fifth place.
Thanks to the performance of Maguchy, Ukraine achieved the maximum high jump quota for the Olympic Games in Paris. The license that Yaroslava received for fulfilling the Olympic standard (1.97 m) became the third one for our country. Recall that back in July, the required standard was met by Irina Gerashchenko and Yulia Levchenko.
Thus, in athletics our country already has 8 Olympic licenses. In addition to Yaroslava, Irina and Yulia, Marina Bekh-Romanchuk (triple jump), Mikhail Kokhan (hammer throw), Victoria Tkachuk and Anna Ryzhikova (400-meter hurdles), and Elena Sobchuk (race walking 20 km).
The world championship was held in the capital of Hungary from 19 to 27 August. The national team of Ukraine was represented by 29 athletes.
