Gerashchenko: I am offended in front of my parents, the coach, the federation. I was hoping for a medal: maybe it was too much

Ukrainian athlete Irina Gerashchenko commented on her speech World Cup 2023, where in the high jump sector she managed to take fifth place.

“I didn’t think of anything. [в финале] made her jumps. Maybe she didn’t finish something. Although I can say by myself that I gave myself completely in the attempts that I did. No excuse, no denials by any means. Just 1.94 meters. Not satisfied, it’s 100%. In training, it was clear that the reserves are much larger, but today this is the result.

“All three attempts I understood that now I can [взять высоту], but ran, flew over – and the bar fell. But all three attempts were tuned in to the fact that I [выполню]. That is, I didn’t have such that, perhaps, I can’t take it. No, there was absolutely no doubt. She went to work and worked. All that I have earned is all mine.”

“I am offended: in front of my parents, husband, coach, federation. I understand that I am well prepared. Everyone hoped for a medal. I also hoped for a medal. Maybe it was too much, I don’t know. You have to go out and just do your thing. We will work on this as well.”

“I can’t say that something in the preparation is wrong. I came in a good condition – both mentally and physically. I do not want to look for any excuses, because there are none. I have to go out and work, which I did: I went out and worked. What I have worked for is what I have.”

“I still have two starts: Brussels [Бриллиантовая лига] and final [Бриллиантовой лиги]. And after that there will be a vacation. Tomorrow we will drive 24 hours home, we will have a debriefing, and we will jump again.

Gerashchenko’s compatriot Yaroslav Maguchy became the world champion. At the same time, both athletes, as well as Yulia Levchenko, fulfilled the Olympic standard and won a license for the Olympic Games-2024.
