Cyclist Solozobova on Junior World Championship victories: “We were worried that we wouldn’t have time to get used to the Cali track”

Russian cyclist Elizaveta Solozobova told she was happy with her performance at the World Junior Championships, although she was worried about adapting to the Cali track.

Solozobova won the sprint at those meets and placed second in the 500m. For her, it was a first major tenure at the international level.

— The rivals are all at my level, I wasn’t surprised by the speeds, I was surprised by the track, because we haven’t driven like that yet.

Wooden, semi-closed, it has long straight lines, a very steep slope in the turns, there is none in Russia. We were afraid that we would arrive and that we wouldn’t have time to get used to the canvas, but in the end, I think I succeeded.

– You fell in the first run of the final. What were you thinking at that time?

– It was very sad. So we were preparing, already for the final, and here is something that disturbed a bit, at that time it was very unpleasant. But that was the hardest part. It’s good that everything turned out well in the end.

– Who supported you at night in Russia?

– The competition was watched by parents, grandparents, who applauded us. Not just for me, for all of our guys. The guys on the team also wrote that they were sick and worried.

What are your general impressions of Colombia?

— They are very beautiful mountains, warm, pleasant and strong. I haven’t flown yet, but there were no problems adapting – we bought tickets very competently for the timing of transfers and arrival in Colombia. We arrived by plane and, tired, went to bed, woke up in the morning, and only then got involved in the work schedule, – Solozobova told .
