Gonzalo Garcia refused to head Dnepr-1 – journalist

The reason is Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine

Spanish tutor Gonzalo Garcia resigned from work Dnepr-1.

It is reported that initially the coach agreed to move to Ukraine. However, massive rocket attacks, in particular on the Dnieper, forced Garcia to abandon the original choice. At the same time, in case of departure from European competitions, Dnipro-1 will leave Uzhgorod and will be based in their hometown.

Gonzalo Garcia spent a significant part of his playing career in the Netherlands, worked at the head of Twente and kept the club in the Eredivisie. In 2021, the Spaniard became the coach of the Croatian Istria 1961, with which he first took 9th and then 5th place, stopping a step away from getting into European competition. This summer, his contract with the Croatian club expired.

After the defeat from Obolon, Alexander Kucher, together with his staff, resigned from the post of head coach. The Dnipros have consistently been eliminated from two qualifying tournaments – the Champions League (from Panathinaikos) and the Europa League (from Slavia).

In the first confrontation of the playoffs of the Conference League, Dnipro-1 and Spartak Trnava parted in a draw – 1:1. The return match between Dnipro-1 and Spartak will take place on August 31. In the UPL, the Dnipros are in 13th place.
