Olympic silver medalist in swimming Ivan Girev told that it is difficult to deal with the emotions of international departures, but you have to adapt to this situation.
Girev ended the season on Sunday with a performance at the Yekaterinburg International University Sports Festival. The Russians have been suspended from participating in international competitions organized under the aegis of World Aquatics, in the context of the situation in Ukraine.
– Two seasons without international departures. Which was the easiest?
– This one, because it turned out to achieve the goals I set out to do. I want to continue swimming, but the body cannot stand such zeal in terms of the density of starts – I need to rest a little.
Are you coping mentally?
— We have already talked a lot about the lack of international practice, the possibility of comparing results from a distance, but nevertheless it is difficult to get the feeling of international competitions, even with parallel live broadcasts with the Russian Championship. Of course, we miss it, it suffocates us a little, but we have to adapt.
– If you look back now, would you have missed a start in such a busy season?
– No. Even the fact that at the beginning of the season I swam 1500 and 400 meters freestyle and thought that I was doing it in vain, now I perceive it differently – everything works.
– Are you going to compete during the short aquatic season?
– I am planning. But, maybe, not as actively as last season, when training started in July and it turned out that there were two peaks then, although we usually don’t do that,” said Girev told .
