Ukraine will boycott future IESF tournaments
International Esports Federation (IESF) allowed Russian teams to compete under the flag of the Russian Federation in tournaments under the auspices of the organization.
Recall that after the full-scale invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine, representatives of the aggressor country could only play in IESF competitions in a neutral status.
“Despite all the protests and attempts by the Ukrainian federation to interfere, the international eSports Federation IESF managed to return the Russians to their tournaments and lift the ban on the use of the flag. We see in this a corruption component and bribery of votes of delegates, because the international federation is already bogged down in corruption scandals.
We will appeal this decision in court and will fight for a re-vote on this issue. But we want to add – this does not mean the return of the orcs to the Federation of Europe, with which we, through the joint efforts of most European federations, stopped their membership! Yes, today it is a tactical defeat, but the war continues,” the Ukrainian eSports Federation said in a statement.
UESF Executive Director Anton Markelov comments Telegram channel “Katsapske Inferno” added that the UESF will boycott future IESF tournaments and recommend that participants in the IESF World Championships in Romania boycott the competition.
“We will block all IESF championships until they change their mind. We will recommend our national teams, which are now playing at the championship in Romania, to do the same, but we cannot force them. They will make their own decision. We will also be making an international claim for this decision to be reviewed and overturned, and also for the information about the vote to be officially released. It is important that the whole world see how each country voted,” Markelov said.
