Former world champion Nelson: It wasn’t a low blow, but I don’t think Dubois would have beaten Usyk

Non-standard, but objective expert opinion

Famous former cruiserweight world champion and now sports analyst Johnny Nelson believes that the same blow Daniel Dubois was legitimate, but the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world champion Oleksandr Usyk still deserved to win.

“I don’t think the kick was illegal… And I think what Usyk did is the same thing most footballers do when they get their ear flicked and they roll about 15 times. However, I believe that the strongest won.”

“I don’t think Dubois was robbed of the win at all, I believe it wasn’t a low blow, but I still don’t think he would have beaten Usyk.”

“Usyk could have gone through before the end of the round, but the referee gave him time to recover. What makes you think Usyk couldn’t have lasted that round… I just think Usyk would still have the strength to go through with it, but we’ll never know, that’s debatable. If most of us are truthful and honest, we hoped that Daniel would win, he had a puncher’s chance to win the fight … and if they fight again, the same thing will happen, ”concluded Nelson.

Before the fight, the expert frankly stated that, despite his sympathy for Dubois, the British challenger has no chance against the Ukrainian.

Recall that in the fifth round of the fight, which took place in Wroclaw in the late evening of August 26, Usyk was on the floor after Dubois struck below the belt to the Ukrainian. The referee gave Alexander time to recover, after which the fight continued. Dubois stated that the kick was clean and he was stripped of a legitimate victory.

At the end of the eighth round, Usyk knocked down Dubois, but the Briton managed to get up and continue the fight. And in the ninth round, the Ukrainian knocked out the Briton after another accurate blow.

After the fight, Alexander said that he intended to relax and spend time with his family. For his next fight, the Ukrainian challenged WBC champion Tyson Fury. Representatives of Alexander and the Gypsy King are negotiating a duel in early 2024.
