The Ukrainian failed to win the second medal at the current world championship in Budapest
Ukrainian swimmer Mikhail Romanchuk finished fifth in the final 2022 World Aquatics Championships at a distance 1500 meters freestyle.
Romanchuk showed a time of 14:40.98, more than eight seconds behind the winner of the final, Gregorio Paltrinieri. The Italian set a new world championship record of 14:32.80.
Silver in the 1500m freestyle was won by American Bobby Fink (14:36.70). Bronze went to German Florian Wellbrock (14:36.94).
Romanchuk is a two-time winner of the world championships at a distance of 1500 m freestyle. In 2017 and 2019 he won silver. The Ukrainian also became the silver medalist of the 2020 Olympics at this distance.
Earlier at the 2022 World Championships in Budapest, Romanchuk won a bronze medal in the 800m freestyle. The Ukrainian has yet to perform in open water competitions at distances of 5 and 10 km.
The FINA World Championships in Budapest will run until 3 July. The Ukrainian national team has already won eight awards (two gold medals).
