Six-time World Championship medalist, Russian canoeist Oleya Romasenko told that she did not miss international competitions, because in Russia the level of competition is no worse than abroad.

At the end of April, the International Canoe Federation (ICF) admitted the Russians to international competitions as neutral athletes. Since then, they have not performed on the world stage. In August, the German Kayaking and Canoeing Association barred Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in the Duisburg World Championships, a qualifying event for the Paris Olympics.
