Madness in Nebraska: 92 thousand spectators came to the match of the women’s varsity volleyball team

This is a new record for competition among women’s teams.

Women’s volleyball teams University of Nebraska and Nebraska-Omaha established new world attendance record for women’s competitions. For the match, which took place at the local outdoor Memorial Stadium, home of the varsity football team, 92 003 spectators came. The previous achievement dates back to April last year: the final match of the Women’s Champions League between Barcelona and Wolfsburg, held at Camp Nou, was attended by 91,648 thousand spectators.

According to media reports, the volleyball match between the University of Nebraska and Nebraska-Omaha was a record attendance for US volleyball as a whole. Prior to that, the most attended NCAA regular season game was the duel between Wisconsin and Florida – 16,833 people.

For all women’s competitions in America, the previous record was 90,185 spectators and was set at the World Cup final on July 10, 1999. Then at the stadium Rose Bowl in Pasadena (California) teams of China and the USA met.

The game between the University of Nebraska and Nebraska-Omaha also broke Memorial Stadium’s attendance record of 91,585. That’s how many fans came to the American football match between the University of Nebraska and the University of Miami in 2014.

Note that the match between the University of Nebraska and Nebraska-Omaha was the main event of the big volleyball evening, which began with a match between the teams of the second division of Nebraska-Kearney and Wayne State, and ended with the performance of country music artist Scotty McCreery.
