The head of the Russian Weightlifting Federation (FTAR) Maxim Agapitov has withdrawn his candidacy for the election of the President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), this was announced at the IWF congress in Tirana .
Also, Ursula Papandrea (USA), Pirros Dimas (Greece), Ali Moradi (Iran), Antonio Urso (Italy), Zhou Jinqiang (China), Tom Yong Ju Lio (Singapore), Satu Carolina Lundal (Finland) and Zhanat Tusupbekov (Kasakhstan).
There are two remaining candidates – Mohd Yousef Al-Mana (Qatar) and Mohammed Hassan Jaloud Alshammari (individual candidate).
Earlier, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld appeals by Agapitov, Alexander Kishkin and Dmitry Chernogorov against the decision of the Special Committee on Admission of the International Weightlifting Federation (EDP IWF) to bar the appointment of candidates for the Board of Directors bodies of the IWF. The International Federation has previously banned Russian candidates from participating in the elections.
