Bellew: I think Usyk wants to become undisputed champion and retire from boxing

The Briton believes that Alexander is one of the best boxers of all time

Former world cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew considers WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight title holder Oleksandr Usyk is able to become the absolute heavyweight champion, after which he will end his career.

“I think he just wants to have a unification fight now. He wants to win the WBC title and unify the heavyweight division and then I guess he just wants to leave. I don’t think we’ll see him again.”

“It seems to me that he will want to go into the sunset, and he should do it. He deserves it. He was just amazing. He’s pretty much done already, so he’s got nowhere to go if he beats Tyson Fury like he’s capable of.”

“If he beats Tyson Fury, he will definitely be one of the greatest fighters. You can’t call him the greatest fighter of all time, but he is definitely on the list of the best.”

Usyk faced Bellew in 2018 for the world heavyweight title. The Ukrainian won by technical knockout in the eighth round. After the fight, Bellew announced his retirement from professional football.

In his last fight, Usyk defeated British Daniel Dubois. The Ukrainian knocked out the opponent in the ninth round.

After the fight, Alexander said that he intended to relax and spend time with his family. For his next fight, the Ukrainian challenged WBC champion Tyson Fury. Representatives of Alexander and the Gypsy King are negotiating a duel in early 2024.
