Commercial director of Dnipro-1: We are considering Mikhailenko among the options, foreign coaches are afraid to come to us

Dnipro do not plan to return Igor Jovicevich

Commercial Director Dnepr-1 Vyacheslav Fridman spoke about the search for a new head coach.

“On Sunday we will play the LNZ championship match, and then there will be a break – we will sit down and seriously think about what and how. We wanted a foreign young specialist to head Dnepr-1, we invited him, but it didn’t work out for us.”

“Gonzalo Garcia and his coaching staff were afraid to come here. Recent arrivals in the Dnieper, which destroyed the bus station, crossed out everything. Before that, the SBU had a blow – this is the center of the city. The whole world is immersed in the Internet, people watch TV, read newspapers. Everyone sees everything and everyone knows. Garcia hesitated, thought – back and forth … It was at this time that the rocket arrived, which became decisive in his decision.

“In these days we will decide something. Maybe we will take a course towards the Ukrainian vector. Maybe temporarily invite some coach. Gorodov and his team are working with LNZ until the next match. I think there will be some changes in the coaching staff during the break in the championship.”

“We are considering all options. Dmitry Mikhailenko – ours, Dnipro. But he is in Cyprus… Let’s put it this way: Mikhailenko is being considered among several candidates.”

“Skrypnyk and Grigorchuk have active contracts with their clubs. Well, if I now tell you that Skripnik, for example, will not be in the Dnieper, but he will appear? We’ll think of something, decide.”

“Igor Jovicevich is not considered. If a person once cheated, why invite him again? Jovicevic and I have a bad relationship. We are suing him.”

After the defeat from Obolon, Alexander Kucher, together with his staff, resigned from the post of head coach. Valery Gorodov became temporarily acting as a mentor.

As a reminder, Dnipro-1 has completed the 2023/24 European Cup campaign. The vice-champion of Ukraine first lost to Panathinaikos in the Champions League qualification, then lost to Slavia Prague in the Europa League qualification, and now Spartak (Trnava) could not pass in the Conference League.

Dnipro-1 scored 4 points in 3 UPL matches. Tomorrow, September 3, Valeriy Gorodov’s team will play against LNZ. The meeting starts at 13:00.
