Freediver Molchanov set a new Russian record for deep diving in the Arctic

Russian freediver Alexei Molchanov has set a new national diving record by holding his breath outside the Arctic Circle, reports the press service of the Russian Freediving Federation.

Molchanov managed to dive 100 meters above the Arctic Circle in the freediving discipline CWT (diving with fins at constant weight). This happened on September 3 during the Putorana Depth 2023 freediving festival.

— Lake Lama, on the Putorana Plateau in Norilsk, became the northernmost point in Russia where freediving competitions were held. When I flew to the Putorana plateau, I thought the diving would be less comfortable. However, everything took place at the highest level, the athlete said.

Molchanov is 34 times world freediving champion and president of the Freediving Federation.
