Russia’s greatest volleyball player, diagonal Maxim Sapozhkov, moved to Verona, the press service of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation reports.
As the official website of the Italian team notes, the contract with the Russian was signed for one year.
Sapozhkov (220 cm) is 2 cm taller than Dmitry Musersky, who for many years was considered the greatest volleyball player in Russia.
The volleyball player, now 21, was born in Voronezh. His career started in Novosibirsk, where he proved himself in the youth league, after which local Lokomotiv sent him on loan to Bulgarian club Montana (2020/21). Last season, Sapozhkov made his full Russian Super League debut with Samotlor and helped them qualify for the playoffs, becoming the Nizhnevartovsk side’s second goalscorer after Ruslan Galimov.
Sapozhkov won the Youth League (2018, 2019), won the Youth League Cup (2019).
As part of the Russian national team, he won the European U-20 Championship (2018). He was recognized as the best diagonal in the U-21 World Championship (2019).
