European Figure Skating Federation delegate admits he was asked not to vote for Russian woman at ISU congress due to politics

According to , one of the representatives of a major European figure skating federation was going to vote for Russian judge Yulia Andreeva in the elections to the International Skating Union (ISU) Single and Pair Skating Technical Committee, but their own federation asked not to do so for political reasons.

“Actually, I was going to vote for Yulia, but our federation has taken the position that we cannot vote for the representatives of Russia and Belarus,” a representative of the federation told , who wished remain anonymous.

The ISU Congress in Phuket was held June 6-10. It enacted a number of groundbreaking rule changes, including raising the age limit in figure skating, speed skating and short track from 15 to 17, reducing the figure skating components from five to three. The ban on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in international competitions has also been extended.

On the last day of the congress, the elections of the president and vice-president of the ISU, as well as new compositions of the council and the technical committees of the organization, took place. Andreeva got 20 votes and took third place (two representatives were chosen). Sweden’s Emily Billow and Australia’s Susan Lynch respectively took first and second place with 33 and 30 votes.
