Russian Presidential aide Igor Levitin told that Russian sports federations, including the Russian Football Union, need to step up cooperation with Asian federations.

— Why should figure skating look to Asia? Our species develops poorly there. But if Asian countries organize competitions and invite us, of course we will go. However, it is better that there are at least some competitions than none at all. Any cooperation is better than isolation. Now we have nothing,” Tarasova told .

In the spring of 2022, FIFA and UEFA suspended Russian clubs from competitions under their auspices due to the situation in Ukraine. In late December, the RFU initiated the creation of a working group to interact with UEFA and other organizations regarding the return of Russian clubs and national teams to participate in official tournaments. At the same time, discussions on the idea of ​​a transfer from the RFU to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) were suspended.

In February 2023, the Russian Chess Federation announced its transition to the Asian Chess Federation.
