Bekh-Romanchuk: I was diagnosed with COVID, which caused a reaction to an ear infection

The Ukrainian is forced to miss the 2023 Diamond League Superfinal

Ukrainian athlete Marina Bekh-Romanchuk couldn’t perform in Diamond League Super Final 2023 due to complications from coronavirus.

“My heart is broken. These days I was supposed to perform at the final stage of the Diamond League. But the reality is that today I will have to fight my illness…

“A few days ago, I immediately returned home to receive full medical attention! After numerous tests, I was diagnosed with COVID, which was a reaction to my ear infection.”

“Now I am doing everything possible to fully recover. I’m so sad that I won’t be able to take part in the last competition of the season and please my fans. But I will support all the athletes with all my love and wish them to end this season with a great performance at a great competition.”

This season, the Ukrainian qualified for the decisive competition in two events – the long jump and the triple jump. However, a few days before the start, Marina withdrew due to health reasons.

Ukraine will be represented in Eugene by six athletes. Yaroslava Maguchikh, Irina Gerashchenko and Yulia Levchenko will perform in the high jump among women, Andrey Protsenko – among men. Anna Ryzhikova and Victoria Tkachuk will also compete in the 400-meter hurdles.

The 2023 Diamond League Grand Final will take place in Eugene on September 16 and 17.
