Alexandre Jouline who trained the Olympic ice dancing champion Romana Kostomarova told on the air of the program “Secret to a Million” on NTV about the problems encountered by the skater during his career.
Since January this year, Kostomarov has suffered several amputations after hospitalization. In early July, the 46-year-old skater announced that he had been released from the hospital.
“I learned that Roma was in the hospital from the news. I immediately called Tanya Navka, she told me that they give two percent for the Roma to survive. I went to all the churches with my wife. I don’t want to talk about the form in which he sits here. It’s a true miracle that he’s alive. Tanya told me in April that he congratulated her on her birthday, and I realized that Roma was coming to her senses and I could talk to her.
I didn’t notice at all that Romka was careless about his health. He never even had any serious injuries.
Usually the only problem was alcohol. Roma came to training with smoke. At some point I got fed up and set penalties. 100 dollars first, then 200 and so on. When he paid 800, that was already the limit. I don’t know where he got the money from, we didn’t make much, he probably borrowed. But when we won a medal at the World Championships, I gave him all that money back,” Zhulin said.
At the end of August, Kostomarov first appeared on the ice in front of the public after illness and operations at Ilya Averbukh’s show in Sochi.
Together with Tatyana Navka, Kostomarov won the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin. The duo also won the World Championships twice and won gold at the European Championships three times. Kostomarov also played in tandem with Ekaterina Davydova.
