Senior coach of the Russian artistic gymnastics team Valentina Rodionenko said that the desire to ban athletes from performing to foreign music is similar to individuals’ attempts to become famous.
On Saturday, during the skating trials of the Russian figure skating team, the country’s vice-champion Pyotr Gumennik performed a short program from last season. Earlier, during a master class at Tamara Moskvina’s club, he presented his program to the music of the German group Rammstein, which they performed for him this season. After his performance at Megasport, Gumennik told reporters that he was prohibited from skating a new short program to the song Rammstein. It later turned out that this happened because of a letter sent to the Russian Sports Ministry and sent to all winter sports federations.
— They say that we must abandon foreign musical works, that we have enough of our own compositions. But no official decree has yet been issued, we are in constant contact with the management of the federation.
It (music ban) makes it seem like some people are trying to become famous, sometimes they say such absurd things,” Rodionenko told .
On Sunday, skaters will perform free programs during the skating tests of the Russian national team.
