Olympic champion in Russian team volleyball Dmitry Musersky told he has extended the contract with Japanese club Suntory Sunbirds for the 2022/23 season.
Musersky, 33, has played for Suntory since 2018, with whom he won the Japanese championship twice and became a bronze medalist.
– Dmitry, are you staying in Japan for the next season?
– Yes, I extended the contract with Suntory for one more season. Right now I’m on vacation. I can’t say exactly when I’ll be back in Japan. I’m waiting for a visa.
– Has the attitude towards you changed in Japan because you are Russian? Foreign clubs have terminated contracts with some of our athletes solely because of their nationality.
– No, there was no negative attitude towards me in Japan – neither from the side of the club, nor from the fans. Everyone is friendly, nothing has changed. I was not asked any political questions,” Musersky told .
As a member of the Russian national team, Musersky won the 2012 Olympics and the 2013 European Championship.
