Senior coach of the Russian cross-country ski team Yuri Borodavko commented on the extension of the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions under the auspices of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), noting that there is no shortage of skiers from the Russian Federation in Europe.
Earlier, Aftonbladet reported that the FIS had maintained the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes for the 2023/24 season.
— Unfortunately, the FIS is an organization with a fairly strong Western lobby among the countries that block any concessions towards Russia. We always fought to win every position. Everything is decided by majority and it should come as no surprise that we are in a losing position. Now the situation has only gotten worse, and we can say: we do not miss anyone, on the contrary, everyone is very happy with the absence of our athletes, because now it is easier to get on the podium .
I would also like to draw your attention to the fact that last year our federation was invited to participate in FIS meetings online without the right to vote. This year we weren’t even invited. All this gives no reason to believe that the situation will change in the near future.
The competition among our skiers is not weaker and remains at a fairly high level. All athletes will strive to occupy the highest places, and our leaders will try to put up strong resistance to competitors, Borodavko quotes RT.
