rugby team CSKA will not be announced for participation in the Russian Championship and the National Cup in the 2022/23 season due to financial problems, according to the Moscow club’s website.
– Two weeks ago, in a face-off with Slava Moscow, CSKA secured the status of the best team in the capital, but now the club has to admit that without finding a general sponsor for the men’s team, he will not be able to guarantee the financial obligations in the start season.
This decision was taken largely to preserve the concept of an integrated systems approach to club activities, to continue to work on developing existing achievements and high results in women’s rugby, military rugby, the academy of children and among youth teams, CSKA said in a statement.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of CSKA Rugby Club, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Russian Rugby Federation Igor Artemiev noted that the team will retain a place in the Premier League, where they can return in a year.
We are stepping back so that we can take two steps forward in the future. We will close all debts, fulfill existing obligations to players and do everything possible to find funding for next season,” Artemyev said.
The Rouge-Bleu finished last season in seventh place in the Russian Championship.
