Russian beach volleyball players will participate in an international tournament for the first time in more than a year and a half, according to the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VFV) website.
Russians will participate in the tournament under the auspices of the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV), which will be held from October 5 to 8 in the Turkish city of Balikesir. Russian volleyball players will represent Azerbaijani teams.
Silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics Oleg Stoyanovsky and silver medalist of the European Championship Ilya Leshukov will play for “Murov”, medalists of the stages of the Russian Championship Olga Motrich and Adelya Akhmetova will play for “Azerrail”.
Russian players will participate in official international beach volleyball competitions for the first time in March 2022.
In June, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) extended the suspension of Russian teams and athletes from international competitions. It was also decided not to display the national teams of Russia and Belarus in the world rankings until they participate in events, but their ranking points remain frozen in accordance with the decision of the board of directors of the FIVB from October 2022.
