Athletistic/Figure Skating. Russian national figure skating team doctor Philip Shvetsky spoke about Beijing Olympic champion in the team championship Kamila Valieva’s reaction to the doping scandal at the 2022 Olympics.

Tarasova attacked ISU over Valieva’s unfair treatment

“Camila, of course, is a child by age, but for athletes I think a year and a half goes by. Just like us doctors working in intensive care. In some areas they have a childish perception of life, but sport teaches them to adapt quickly to difficult life circumstances, in sport you grow faster,” Shvetsky told Literaturnaya Gazeta.

“At first she didn’t even show that there was a reason to get excited. She reacted simply and with dignity, waiting for the situation to be resolved. But then it turned out that because from her doping test, the whole team was threatened. And she took this turn very emotionally – she burst into tears, for a long time she could not calm down. This is an indicator that she is not not just a well-educated girl, but a person. For her, it became a trauma, a stress, that she let the team down, that her comrades were going to suffer.

Immediately after winning the gold medal at the 2022 Olympics, it became known about Valieva’s positive doping test, which Kamila passed 3.5 months before the start of the Olympics. All other doping tests, which Valieva then gave, gave a negative result. Due to the lawsuit, the award was postponed, but then Valiyeva was allowed to participate in only one tournament, but Kamila could not win a medal and showed the fourth result. Anna Shcherbakova became the Olympic champion in women’s individual skating.
