Lunin: At the end of last season I thought about leaving Real Madrid, but there were no serious offers

According to Andrey, the Madrid club has been his dream since childhood, but he wants to play

Goalkeeper Ukrainian national team and Madrid Real Madrid Andrey Lunin — about his attitude towards the Royal Club and career ambitions.

“Did I want to leave Real Madrid? At the end of last season I thought about this. It’s okay not to play. Real Madrid has always been my dream since childhood, I don’t really want to leave. But you always want to play, you train to play, you want to feel the emotions of the games… Let’s see, now I’m focused on training.”

“There were offers from other clubs, but I didn’t talk to them, there was nothing serious,” Andrey concluded.

Lunin moved to Real Madrid from Zarya Lugansk in 2018. At first it was rented out (Leganes, Valladolid, Oviedo). Being a backup to Thibaut Courtois, Andrei played 19 matches for the Blancos, and did not miss a goal in five of them.

This season, after Courtois received a serious injury, our compatriot played two matches for the Blancos (one to zero), but soon the Madrid loaned Kepa Arrizabalaga to Chelsea, and during Courtois’ absence, it is the Spaniard who occupies the No. 1 position.

At the end of September, 24-year-old Lunin was called up to the Ukrainian national team for the Euro 2024 qualifying matches against North Macedonia and Malta. However, Andrey subsequently developed problems with his back, which is why he was replaced on the roster list by Shakhtar goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk.
