Rooney turned down several offers from Saudi Arabia for Birmingham

Recently, the ex-Everton, Manchester United and England national team forward became the head coach of the Championship club

As became known, Wayne Rooney refused several clubs from Saudi Arabia to return to England.

The English specialist recently received English Birmingham, which plays in the Championship. The parties signed a contract until the summer of 2027. Wayne’s coaching staff included renowned former footballers Ashley Cole and John O’Shea.

The 37-year-old former Everton, Manchester United and England forward previously coached DC United in MLS. The Englishman terminated his contract with the club by mutual consent of the parties. At the same time, Rooney’s club was unable to make it to the MLS playoffs.

In England, Rooney coached Derby County from November 2020 to June 2022. The Rams, along with Wayne, were relegated to League 1, but the reason for the failure was a 21-point fine for financial violations.

Birmingham last played in the Premier League in the 2010/11 season. In recent years, the Blues have been steadily fighting for survival in the Championship. They were saved from relegation in the 2022/23 season by John Eustace, whose first job as a full-time head coach.

Birmingham are currently in sixth place in the Championship. On October 21, Rooney will make his debut in charge of the team in a game against Middlesbrough.
