Taylor relinquished his WBC title. Ramirez and Zepeda will fight for the vacant title

The Scot vacated his second belt in two months

Josh Taylor Relinquished the WBC Light Welterweight Championship.

The Scot vacated the title and will not defend it against the American Jose Cepedoy.

“The WBC has received a letter from attorney Josh Taylor confirming his resignation of the WBC junior welterweight title. The WBC sincerely regrets wasting so much time and ‘freezing’ José Cepeda as well as other fighters in the division,” World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman said in a statement.

For the vacant WBC title, Cepeda is expected to face Jose Ramirez, who lost that belt to Taylor last year. The fighters have 30 days to agree on the terms of the fight, otherwise promotional auctions will be scheduled for August 1.

In May, Taylor vacated the WBA championship belt and lost his status as the undisputed light welterweight champion of the world by refusing to defend the title in a fight with Dominican Alberto Puello.
