“We have grown and continue to grow” – figure skaters Khudaiberdieva and Bazin

Skaters Elizaveta Khudaiberdieva And Egor Bazin who practice ice dancing, said they had matured compared to last season.

Khudaiberdieva and Bazin won the first stage of the Russian Grand Prix on Sunday, which took place in Ufa. In total, the skaters scored 206.75 points on both skates.

— Does your performance during the first stage of the Grand Prix bring you a certain satisfaction?

— Bazin: Yes I have. We went through the period from the skating tests to the first stage, being on the right track. But there is still a lot of work to be done. It’s not the maximum, it’s the first step. You have to do three during the season.

— Khoudaiberdieva: We are satisfied with the scene and the competition, there is satisfaction. I was happier with myself yesterday than today. I attribute this to the fact that it is very unusual to ride in the evening. I sat down and it was strange that I wasn’t worried. I went out, there was silence in my head, no thoughts, nervousness. I thought something was going to happen now. I attribute that to the fact that I’m not used to playing like that. That’s why it wasn’t as emotional as it could be. But at the same time we have a clean and cool skate, better than the control skates.

— Bazin: Probably, everything is not technically good there. We have to work technically. See what needs to be fixed.

— Compared to last season, you have reached a new level. In rhythmic dance, you have astonishing plasticity. How did you work to achieve this effect?

— Bazin: The style of dance has changed. We chose jazz-blues, we have to stay in the style of the 80s in rhythmic dance. We didn’t want to go back to the disco we were playing two years ago. We could have skated to known compositions, but we didn’t want to repeat ourselves. We wanted to try a juicier style, the blues. We’re probably already on the verge of showing it. But we still have to work to show masterful skating. We worked a lot on the ice with our choreographer, went to the gym ourselves, watched ice dancing videos.

— Khoudaiberdieva: Our characteristic style of movement with Egor is the foundation that was laid in Samokhin’s group. There we did a lot of ballroom dancing, including individually. We have a certain plasticity, but now we develop it with our choreographers.

— Bazin: Alexander Vyacheslavovich Zhulin can explain in one sentence how to dance the whole dance.

— Khoudaiberdieva: In one sentence, express how we should feel in dance.

— Bazin: We must try to embody what we feel. Sometimes it’s difficult.

— Does the transformation taking place under Zhulin’s leadership excite you?

— Khoudaiberdieva: We moved to Zhulin to try something new, to try to open up in a new way. Working in a new team helps you feel new emotions and see clearly what needs to be done next.

— Do you feel more confident and calmer compared to last season?

— Khoudaiberdieva: I – yes! Egor, it seems to me too. He became calmer, more confident in himself and his abilities. Trial skating is like a competition. The same tournament, but there are no rankings. The second tournament, Egor behaves differently.

— Bazin: We have grown and continue to grow.

— At the end you sang the words of the song. Was it an emotional outburst or was it intentional?

— Khoudaiberdieva: It was me who was looking for air. Honestly, I don’t remember. I do not think about it. Probably, singing during a rental is a small thing.

— Bazin: It’s not settled that way.
