“I would like to complicate the programs, but the coaching staff will decide everything” – figure skater Frolova

Figure skater Anna Frolova after the second place at the Russian Grand Prix in Ufa, she said that she would like to complicate the programs, but the decision on this will be made by the technical staff.

On Sunday, Frolova took second place in the first stage of the Ufa Grand Prix, scoring 210.88 points for two programs. The first was Adelia Petrosyan (234.74), the third was Elizaveta Kulikova (199.21).

This summer, Frolova joined Evgeniy Rukavitsyn’s coaching group from Sergei Davydov.

— I don’t know what happened in the end. She probably relaxed a little in advance.

— We often see falls during jumps, but…

“I’m the only one who fell off the slope.” But I don’t want it to be my signature item. There have never been such incidents before.

– Are these emotions?

— After the song, I thought that was it. I approach a slope, I start to pitch, my speed decreases and I realize that I shouldn’t have relaxed so much.

—You have a non-standard choice of music. How did you get there?

— I came across this music on social media. I thought it was interesting. In the middle of last season, they changed my program. As an option, I gave this music, it was agreed and played.

— When the lyrics of a song are in Russian, the viewer understands everything. But when the words are foreign, difficulties can arise. How important is it to you that the viewer understands?

— There are not many words in my free program. It’s Georgian tango. I hope I bring it out in the picture. Since I skate something bold, confident, at the same time this tango should not be so much daring as spectacular. It is not so important to understand the words as it is to understand the image.

— Will you change anything in the content as the season progresses?

“I will discuss it with the technical staff.” I feel confident with this content now. I wish it were more complicated. But everything will be decided by the technical staff – on which bets will be placed. You have to calculate everything tactically.

— How many points can you get with such content? What ceiling?

— I lost at least three points on the slope, and then there were all kinds of bonuses, confidence in the execution. I don’t know what the maximum is. I hope that as the season goes on, I will find out what the maximum points can be for this program.

— What are your general emotions now?

“I am satisfied, happy, but emotionally exhausted. I have three departures in a short time. On the one hand, it is practical, on the other hand, the emotional and physical fitness is not yet sufficient to quickly recover and approach the next competition with renewed vigor. What helps you recover? My family, my friends, communication with them,” reports the correspondent.

The opening stage of the 2023 Russian Figure Skating Grand Prix will take place in Ufa on October 14-15.
