Athletistic / Others. Russian President Vladimir Putin, in an interview with China Media Corporation, spoke about the importance of playing sports. He also spoke about the influence of sports on his life.
“Thank God I have time to train. I believe that this must be done in order to work intensively. Training is not an end in itself, but a means to achieve truly important goals, the possibility of working intensively, in that mode which allows you to achieve your goals.
I only started skating 10 years ago. Before that, I didn’t know not only how to skate, but even how to stand on it. And now I still play hockey. I like doing it. Team sports are always interesting, moving, exciting and offer the opportunity to truly take a break from everyday life.
Wushu is very popular in Russia. I hope that the popularity of wushu will continue to grow and we would like to introduce our Chinese colleagues to Russian national sports in the field of martial arts. For example, I’m talking about sambo.
I come from a simple working family, and at one time I had a lot of time to spend in the yard. It is not known what my fate would have been if I had not been interested in sports. Immediately, priorities seemed to assert themselves not in the yard, but on the sports fields, in my case on the tatami mats. Certain views immediately appeared about relationships with others, about how to build these relationships, about how to treat partners with respect and not allow anything that could somehow harm your relationship. “Sport is an excellent education, which is very important,” Putin said, according to the Kremlin press service.
Vladimir Putin has been practicing sambo and judo since he was 11 years old. He received the title of Master of Sports in judo. In September 2006, Vladimir Vladimirovich became honorary president of the European Judo Union and in 2010 received an honorary degree of “Doctor of Judo” from South Korea’s Yongin University.
