Athletistic / Others. Five new sports have been officially added to the program for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles (United States).

New Olympic sports include flag football (a limited-contact version of American football), squash, lacrosse, baseball/softball and cricket. The decision was taken and approved today, October 16, during the 141st session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Mumbai (India).

Note that lacrosse, baseball/softball and cricket were previously part of the Olympic family. Baseball/softball was represented in the Olympic Games from 1992 to 2008, as well as the previous Olympic Games in 2020 in Tokyo. Cricket was included in the Games in 1900 and lacrosse in 1904 and 1908.

The 2028 Summer Olympics will be held in Los Angeles from July 14 to 30. The Californian city had already hosted the Games in 1984.
