The Italian national team player previously admitted his gambling addiction
Midfielder Newcastle Sandro Tonali has returned to training with the club and will be ready to play in the next match, the player’s agent Giuseppe Riso said.
“Sandro suffers from a gambling addiction. He is struggling with this, I am sure he will succeed. He’s upset and still in shock,” the player’s agent said.
“I want to thank Newcastle because the club supports Sandro. Tonali is already training and will be ready to play in the next match.”
Earlier, the Newcastle midfielder admitted his involvement in illegal betting and a gambling addiction. The midfielder intends to undergo psychotherapy.
Let us remind you that the Italian police have identified a number of players who are suspected of participating in illegal bets. In addition to Tonali, Aston Villa player Nicolo Zaniolo came under suspicion. Also, Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli admitted his guilt in participating in illegal betting, made a deal with the prosecutor’s office and agreed on a seven-month disqualification.
The Italian Olympic Committee’s Code of Sports Justice prohibits professional football players from directly or indirectly betting on events held under the auspices of the FIGC (Italian Football Federation), UEFA and FIFA. If proven guilty, players face a fine and excommunication from football for up to three years.
Newcastle are in eighth place in the Premier League. The Magpies next host Crystal Palace on October 21.
